Define Measurement Area (cloned)
4 min
amics will always generate a default measurement area based on the shape and area of the specimen so if the specimen hole is rounded a rounded measurement area covering 90% of the hole will be created, otherwise, a rectangular measurement area is created if the hole is rectangular however, users also can set their measurement area within the specimen hole area users have two options to customize the measurement area, either using a drawing tool or for amics to generate a measurement area based on marked positions draw a measurement area to manually draw a measurement area over the specimen hole area when selecting one of the three " draw " options, the mouse icon will change from an arrow to a pencil with either a small circle or a square users have the option to draw circle area this will change the mouse to a pencil with a circle, allowing users to click and drag a circle's diameter draw rectangular area this will change the mouse to a pencil with a small square, allowing users to click and drag the length and width of a rectangular area draw polygon area this will change the mouse to a pencil with a small square, allowing the user to point and click a series of points on the specimen hole area, which will be sequentially joined by a line once the user points and clicks back onto the origin point, investigator will "close" the polygon and the defined measurement area within the lines of the defined polygon generate a measurement area to have amics generate a measurement area based on given stage positions on the specimen, at least two locations on the specimen need to be marked for circular and rectangular areas at least two reference points are needed, while a polygon will need three or more reference points note if more than two reference points are defined, generating a circular or rectangular area will attempt to draw a circle or rectangle that encompasses all points, even if the points are inside the boundary if too many points or point positions prevent a circle or rectangle from being drawn, amics will pop up an error stating the shape could not be drawn the only way to resolve this is to choose a differnt shape, or redefine the refernce points to save reference points, move to the first location, then while pressing and holding down the shift key, right click the next position and select "move to hw to position" once the stage finishes moving, while pressing and holding down the shift key, click the "mark hw pos at the top menu ribbon a new red crosshair will now appear in the new specimen position to create more reference points this process can be repeated until the desired number of points have been defined once all desired number of reference points have been selected, selecting the drop down menu from the "pencil" menu ribbon will allow users to generate a circle, generate a rectangle, and generate polygon the image below provides an example of what the various shapes will resemble based on the reference points
