introduction amics 5 1 0 has been designed to work with multiple sem platforms while only supporting the bruker eds detector system, as per the previous software compatibility and requirements compatible sem platform compatible eds system hitachi tm 4000 iii single q75 hitachi flexsem 1000 ii single and dual bruker q80 hitachi su 3900 single and dual bruker xflash® 760 hitachi su 3900 se single and dual bruker xflash® 760 hitachi su 7000 dual and quad bruker xflash® 760 bruker m4 and m4 plus dual xflash® 760 or 730 though amics has been designed with the appropriate api commands to control the various sem platforms directly, bruker esprit 2 5 1 must be installed onto the measurement system to control the eds detector system bruker esprit 2 5 1 must be installed onto the measurement system to control the eds detector system please refer to the associated bruker installation instructions to help install esprit 2 5 1 sem communications setup communication with the sem platform is essential for properly operating the amics acquisition software, investigator, as it requires the ability to control the instrument stage and the scan coils to control the electron beam stage control is possible directly from amics to the sem control pc via tcp/ip communication protocol via a cat5 cable or espirt as a communication bridge between amics and the sem control pc the preferred installation is for amics and espirt to be installed onto separate pcs, with communication between the sem pc usually achieved via a tcp/ip network connection the individual hardware installation manual provides detailed instructions for communicating between the sem and amics/espirt pc once the base tcp/ip network communication has been set up for the specific analysis platform, the sem communication set up for amics can be accessed via amics tools clicking the "em" tab in the lower left hand corner will bring up the sem communication setup screen from the amics tools sem communication page, the specific sem communication protocol be selected using the dropdown menu in the top right hand corner (red arrow in the above image) depending on the sem platform, amics has been installed on the following table showing the required communication protocol the table shows the required server ip and the port address setting depending on whether amics is installed on the sem control pc or a separate eds pc if the choice is to use espirt as the bridge for communication with the sem, the em bruker communication protocol should be used, and the amics software must be installed on the eds pc once the correct sem communication protocol has been selected and set, it can be tested by trying to read in data from the sem using the "get" buttons shown on the left hand panel note!
