Add a Measurement

add measurements to a sample measurements define how data are acquired from a sample in amics investigator measurements can be created when adding a new sample, appended to an existing sample, or generated from templates the following sections describe all supported methods use the add sample dialog the add sample dialog is the primary method for populating an empty specimen holder it allows definition of the specimen type, classification workflow, and initial measurement modes in a single operation the dialog can be accessed in three ways right click an empty specimen holder hole use the keyboard shortcut ctrl+shift+n select add sample from the sample holder section of the main ribbon add sample workflow sample definition select the appropriate specimen type select the classification workflow to associate with the sample measurement selection select one or more measurement modes to add select the specimen holder holes that should receive the same configuration completion confirm the dialog to create the sample and associated measurements once added, the sample and its measurements can be further configured common follow up actions include renaming samples and measurements adjusting advanced measurement settings capturing calibration images recording hardware conditions saving the configuration as a method template saving the sample as a specimen template the default sample name can be defined in the investigator options dialog add a sample using the stage view a sample can be added directly from the specimen holder display right click an empty hole right click an empty hole in the specimen holder view select add sample from the context menu the add sample dialog opens with the selected hole preassigned add a sample using the ribbon selecting add sample from the main ribbon opens the add sample dialog without preselecting specimen holder holes this method is useful when defining samples before assigning them to specific holder positions add measurements to an existing sample measurements can be appended to samples already present on the stage this supports incremental method development and supplemental analyses right click a sample on the stage right click a specimen holder hole containing a sample select add measurement select the desired measurement type the new measurement appears under the selected sample and is immediately available for editing right click the sample list right click the sample entry in the sample list select add measurement select the measurement type this method provides the same functionality as stage based selection and is often preferred when working in list views add measurements using templates templates provide predefined configurations for measurements and specimens, enabling consistent reuse across projects activate the template pane templates are accessed by selecting templates in the left hand pane of the investigator window drag and drop a template templates can be applied by dragging them directly onto specimen holder holes or into the measurement list this action creates one or more measurements based on the template configuration and assigns them to the selected samples apply a template using the context menu templates can also be applied using a context menu template assignment workflow right click the desired template and select add to samples in the specimen holder dialog select individual holes to receive the measurement use select all to apply the template to all positions if a hole is empty, a default sample is used confirm the dialog to create the measurements the measurements are ready for parameter editing or hardware setup operational notes measurements inherit defaults from the creation method or template used all measurements remain fully editable after creation templates affect only newly created measurements clear naming conventions are recommended when creating multiple measurements
